Beyond its 266 annual sunny days, San Diego County has more pleasant days per calendar year than any other city in the United States.
Weather-wise the the nicest place in the entire county is the city of Vista California. In fact, Vista was known as “America’s Climatic Wonderland” for more than 50 years!
So it is no wonder that Vista is considered one of the best places to retire in America.
Being that Vista is located seven miles from the Pacific Ocean, the city falls into a geographic sweet spot where neither the ocean or the desert influence dominates. What results are seemingly endless days of wonderfully pleasant weather, where almost anything can and will grow.
Historic downtown Vista continues to experience an exciting revitalization with new restaurants, multitudes of craft beer breweries, coffee shops, unique retails outlets and entertainment choices.
The city also hosts fun events throughout the year such as a rhythm and blues festival, strawberry festival, BBQ classic, arts festival, viking festival, bluegrass and folk music festival, maker’s markets, San Diego’s longest running farmer’s market, classic car rod run, holiday parades, and the Scottish Highland Games.
Vista also has a beautiful outdoor playhouse, the Moonlight Amphitheatre, that hosts Broadway plays in the summer months. Besides the Moonlight Theatre, there are two other playhouses in downtown Vista as well. In other words, there is ample opportunity to immerse oneself in a community!
The retirement housing choices in Vista are quite diverse.
The obvious choices are age-restricted 55+ communities. These range from stick-built duplexes at Nob Hill, manufactured homes in land-owned communities such as Vista Del Mar, to mobile home communities in land-leased parks.
The not so obvious choice are custom homes built in one of the many hidden hillside neighborhoods, some offering long distance ocean views.
Since there is a lack of newer housing developments in Vista CA 55+ communities, plenty of retirees choose to live in traditional neighborhoods in the city where you can find a plethora of detached single family homes and condos in various locations for every budget.
