California is hurting for new housing inventory in general. Specifically, there is a lack of new construction of 55+ communities in San Diego County.
As of 2023, there are so many new housing laws passed in California with hopes of addressing the housing shortage in both all-ages communities and age-qualified communities for seniors.
In San Diego County, there are only a couple of new San Diego 55+ communities being built every 5 years or so. Please watch our video update below.
The good news is that there are a couple of new construction San Diego 55+ communities that are coming soon:
The first is The Junipers 55+ community under construction by Lennar in Rancho Penasquitos. This new construction 55 plus San Diego community is adjacent to Interstate 15 and located right next to a multi-story apartment building called Millennium PQ in the Rancho Penasquitos community.

The construction of The Junipers 55 plus community in San Diego began in 2023.
The second new San Diego 55+ community coming soon is located near the Mexican border in Chula Vista at Haddington at Côta Vera by Cal West.

Other New or Newer Construction San Diego 55+ Communities
Besides The Junipers and Haddington at Côta Vera, the newer 55 plus communities in San Diego that are already developed are Auberge at Del Sur (2017) and Avante at Del Sur (2018). Both of these 55+ developments were built by Lennar.

Currently, in Southern California, there are some new 55+ communities in Orange County (i.e. Rancho Mission Viejo 55+ Communities at Pearl and Haven) and Riverside County 55+ (Terramor 55+ in Corona CA, Esplanade 55+ in Temecula).
