When considering a 55+ community and home, choose the agent that you work with wisely.
Many agents selling in these 55+ communities actually reside in the one that they market to, where you found them, and really only want to sell you a home in ‘their’ community. They may lack the intimate knowledge required to show you all of your options, and indeed may not want to help you with your search outside of ‘their’ community.
In order to make a good home buying decision, buyers really need something to compare and contrast with – meaning other communities and properties. These competing properties will give you clear indications about your choice, either confirming that what you saw before was in fact the best for you, or that you might need to continue searching.
Our specialty lies in all of San Diego’s best 55+ communities, and has been since 2010. We tend to sell more homes in certain communities than others. And these are where most buyers come to us in seeking help to purchase within these popular communities. But it is important to know that, through experience, we have learned that only about 30% of buyers who look at these higher-end communities, actually end up buying there. The reason? Simply because, one size does not fit all.

Often times, as we explore with buyers, even these other 55+ communities end up not resonating with them and our experience again is very beneficial, in that we know the all-age communities to immediately shift our search to, that are attractive to mature buyers.
Another important consideration when choosing a Realtor® – especially one that lives in a 55+ community that you are targeting, is that you may not want another resident (or residents) knowing too much about your financial life, that the purchase of a home reveals. You may also not want to be bumping into your agent at the pool, pickleball courts or community functions.
