We are often asked about what the average age is in Oceanside’s 55+ community of Ocean Hills Country Club. The answer is not easy to arrive at for several reasons.
Due to the turnover of homes in this beautiful and active community, the average age is dynamic and always changing, due to homes being bought and sold each week. In addition, it is important to note that properties held in a Trust have never had demographic data available – thus no age information to help arrive at average age for any of these homes at all. More than half of the properties in Ocean Hills Country Club are held in a trust, so this will skew the numbers provided below.
The best that we can do is provide age ranges of today’s residents.

Where this question of average age stems from is mostly out of potential buyer’s concerns over purchasing in a community where the average age is so high that the buyer fears that residents are all in wheelchairs, on oxygen and in ill health.
We can assure you that this is not the case in Ocean Hills Country Club.
This is a result-style, Active Adult, 55+ community where, in general, residents are seeking healthy fun. How do they do this?
If you were able to visit the community on spring, summer or fall morning, you would find the pickleball courts full of fun-loving competitors and even more residents waiting their turn off to the side under the shaded patios. The tennis courts would have some doubles matches in progress. The solar, saltwater pool would have numerous lap swimmers getting in their laps. “The loop”, which is the 2-1/2 mile circuit that encircles the community would be full of dozens of fitness walkers adding to their daily step counts. Walk inside the 27,000 square foot clubhouse and you’ll find dancers getting their exercise in the auditorium, several ping pong games ongoing, many of the seven billiards tables in play and both the cardio and fitness gyms occupied by residents.
Besides these physical exercises, many of the meeting rooms will have residents playing cards, dominoes, guitars and ukeleles. Usually there are even more residents in the sewing and paper crafting, painting and stained/fused glass studios. This is no geriatric resting place!
Still, with 1,632 homes all filled with senior citizens, there will be some people who are in failing health, just like happens in regular non-age-restricted neighborhoods.
Anecdotally, we believe that Ocean Hills Country Club’s average age has been decreasing, due the addition of more and more pickleball courts to the amenity’s lineup there. Since there are more pickleball courts in OHCC than any other SOCAL coastal 55+ community, it has become a draw for younger residents, eager to find available pickleball courts and games.
