For those home buyers who are not considering a move to San Diego due to children and, or, grandchildren being in the area, often, another consideration are other states or locales, that offer 55+ options as well.
If this is you, please do consider this carefully. We say this because too many times people have decided to purchase a home in another area due to the lower prices, only to regret it because of excess heat, bad weather, high number of insects, etc . . .
Once that regret sets in they contact us, desperately trying to now buy a home in San Diego. The sad truth is that many of these unfortunate people can no longer afford to move here.
Had they purchased here in the first place, they likely would have been fine. But now the cost of buying and selling real estate, moving, and money spent on other things that was ‘saved’ by purchasing in a cheaper area, is gone.
Consider why property is more expensive here. We call it the sunshine tax. Our near-perfect year-around weather increases San Diego’s desirability exponentially. Add to that the magnitude of interesting things to do and see, and it is easy to see why San Diego ranks very high in places to retire to.
