All 55-and-over communities have some type of restrictions that pertain to pets. Some communities limit to one or two pets in total. Other communities might restrict to just one pet, while still others may have size, weight and breed limits. Going even further, a growing number of 55+ communities do not allow pet walking within the development, due to people not cleaning up after their pets as they should.
Fortunately, Ocean Hills Country Club is more liberal when it comes to pet restrictions, simply following the City of Oceanside’s pet restrictions without discriminating against size or breed, as long as they are not being raised for commerce purposes. Just know that the community does have restrictions about excess noise and frequently barking dogs or other noisy pets are not tolerated.
Pets are not permitted, however, in certain areas like the clubhouse, pool deck, tennis and pickleball courts or the golf course. Dogs being walked inside the community must always be on a leash, except in the dog park, known as Kanine Kampus.
Kanine Kampus, the off-leash dog park, is enclosed by a 6-foot-tall fence with double gates so that no dogs can escape as others enter or leave. The large Astroturfed area also has a permanent shade structure and benches for dog owners’ comfort and strategically placed fire hydrants for dog’s relief.
Just outside the gates is the Calavera Preserve with hundreds of acres of natural preserved land filled with hiking trails, perfect for dog walking.
One of the advantages of walking pets within Ocean Hills Country Club is the opportunity it provides in meeting other residents doing the same thing. This fosters integration into the community and friendship making.
