The community of Rancho Bernardo is the northern most part of the City of San Diego and has a convenient central location, 20 miles northeast of Downtown San Diego.
There’s also an abundance of hiking trails to enjoy the gorgeous scenery and the neighboring community of Poway offers plenty of horse stables and riding trails.
Depending on exactly where you are, you could have a 30-minute drive to the coast or 30-40 minutes to Downtown San Diego, and the International Airport. On the other hand, you have a different world to the north and east, with easy access to rural, country-side locations like Poway, Ramona, and the Temecula wine country, all within 15-20 minutes.
Rancho Bernardo is very accessible to freeways (I-15 and highway 56), making for a quick drive to the coast or any other area.
Rancho Bernardo is considered a golfing community.
The courses located nearby include, the Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Course, the Oaks North Executive Golf Course, Stoneridge Country Club, and the Bernardo Heights Country Club. Other nearby golf courses include, the Santaluz Club, the Farms Golf Club, the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club, the Morgan Run Club and Resort, the Maderas Golf Club, the Carmel Mountain Ranch Golf Course and the Vineyard at Escondido Golf Club.
Because of its inland location, the weather can be a little warmer in the summer. But at the same time it won’t be as cool as the coastal cities, especially at morning and night.
Average high temperatures range from 68 F in January to 89 F in August, while the average lows range from 43 F in January to 63 F in August.
The area is also home to the corporate headquarters of Sony and also a major business park that employs more than 50,000 workers. Companies here include Broadcom, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Teradata, LSI Corporation, BAE Systems and Northrop Grumman.
You’ll find great shopping centers like the Rancho Bernardo Town Center, Westwood Shopping Center and The Plaza Shopping Center. The Bernardo Winery, easily walkable from the Oaks North 55+ community, is the oldest family owned/operated winery in Southern California (est. in 1889), and listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
Because Rancho Bernardo has such a vibrant senior population, many businesses offer discounts to those seniors.
The Aurora Behavioral Health Care Psychiatric Center is located here and the Pomerado Hospital is just 2.6 miles away, while the Palomar Medical Center is only 7.2 miles away. All the major San Diego hospitals and medical facilities are within 22 miles of Rancho Bernardo.
ALL of the 55+ communities in Rancho Bernardo are stick built and Resident-Owned! There are no land-leased mobile or manufactured home communities for 55+ adults in Rancho Bernardo.
Auberge at Del Sur is gated, and the newest 55+ community in San Diego County.
There are a wide variety of homes in Auberge, roughly half are attached duplex style and the other half single family detached homes. The Cottages range in size from 1,276 to 1,860 square feet. The Villas range in size from 1,604 to 2,082, and Summer House are all detached homes lining the perimeter of Auberge, and affording the best views, range in size from 2,028 – 2,925 square feet.
Auberge is a pet friendly community, allowing for two pets, and with a dog park separated in two sections for small and large dogs.*
The Club includes a recreation center with pool, spa, fitness center, library, multi-function rooms set up for entertainment, meetings or social groups, pickle ball court, bocce ball court, BBQ’s, and an intimate outdoor setting.
Auberge residents also share in all of Del Sur’s 13 other parks and amenities.
Oaks North consists of numerous neighborhoods anchored around its very active clubhouse and the Oaks North Executive Golf Course just across the street.
The Oaks North Community Center offer almost any physical and, or social activity that one could want: a beautiful pool with areas for lap swimming, a covered spa, tennis courts, pickle-ball court, fitness center, lawn bowling, billiards, library, game, meeting and card rooms, ceramics, arts and crafts and woodworking studios, as well as numerous clubs. All of these give residents and endless array of activities to spice up everyday life.
There is a home size and style for almost every need at Oaks North. The community consists of condos, attached homes and single family detached homes in non-gated neighborhoods.
The only gated community in Oaks North 55+ community is Chapala, a gated 55+ neighborhood directly across the golf course’s fairway from the Oaks North Community Center.
Residents can walk to the Bernardo Winery, the Winery Village Shops and the weekly farmer’s market.
Seven Oaks is another large 55+ community in Rancho Bernardo, just a few blocks south of Oaks North.
You’ll find Seven Oaks just off of Rancho Bernardo Road, across the street from the Rancho Bernardo Swim and Tennis club and a block away from shopping and restaurants.
Seven Oaks is comprised of 1759 attached and single family detached homes, with six separate Homeowner’s Associations – one for the detached single family homes, and the remaining associations for the attached condo homes.
Seven Oaks has a beautiful clubhouse complex, offering a heated swimming pool, spa, library, tennis, shuffleboard courts, putting green, auditorium and meeting rooms. The majority of the homes are 2 bedroom and two baths, with a few single bedroom and three bedroom homes added to the mix. The single family detached homes have no monthly HOA fees – just an ultra-low monthly fee for the clubhouse amenities.
